A calculator is only useful if you can trust the number it gives you. This page explains how we build the tools and guides on TapeMeasureCalc, what we check before anything goes live, and what we do when something is wrong.
What we publish
We publish free calculators for working out material quantities on home and garden projects, plus guides that explain the measuring and maths behind them. Every page is written to answer a practical question someone has while planning a job, such as how many bags of concrete a set of post holes needs, or how much paint covers a bedroom.
We don’t publish sponsored reviews, product rankings or paid placements.
How the calculators are checked
- Formulas are written once and tested. Each calculator’s maths lives in a single module with automated tests. The tests cover normal inputs, metric and imperial units, decimals, rounding, and values that should be rejected, such as zero or negative sizes.
- Conversions use exact definitions. One inch is exactly 25.4 mm, one US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 litres, and US tons and metric tonnes are never mixed up.
- Worked examples match the tool. The numbers in each worked example come from the same formulas the calculator uses, so you can check a page against the tool yourself.
- Assumptions are shown, not hidden. Where a result depends on a product, like paint coverage, bag yield or gravel density, the default is labelled as an estimate and you can replace it with the figure from the product you’re buying.
How the guides are written
Guides explain the method step by step, with worked examples in US and metric units. We stick to geometry, unit conversions and figures that are printed on products or widely published, and we say plainly when something depends on local conditions or a professional’s judgement. We don’t invent statistics, testimonials or expert credentials.
We use software tools, including AI writing assistance, to help draft and edit text. The formulas and the numbers in the worked examples are always checked against the site’s tested calculation code before publishing.
Safety and professional advice
Our results are estimates for planning and ordering. They are not structural design or code-compliance advice. Pages that touch on structural decisions, like slab thickness or fence posts, say so and point you to a qualified professional. The disclaimer covers this in full.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake in a calculation, a conversion or an explanation, tell us through the contact page with the values you used. We check every report against the calculation code, fix confirmed errors, and update the date on the page that changed.
Advertising
The site may show ads served by Google AdSense to cover its running costs. Ads are kept apart from the calculators and are never placed next to buttons or results where they could be clicked by mistake. Advertisers have no say in what we write. See the privacy policy for how ads use cookies.
